Balancing the Complexities of Life                                                                                                                                                                                  Fall 2018

Our counseling methods at Simply Grace have evolved in the last couple of years into more of an integrative, holistic approach. One of the techniques we use and teach our clients is the Emotional Freedom Technique. It can be seen as a scientific approach to renewing the mind. “Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is part of the field of energy medicine and energy psychology, which is based on the foundation that good health relies on the proper energy flow throughout the body.  Any major stressor can interrupt this flow, creating an energy ‘block’ that can lead to disease.”- thetruthaboutcancer.com

This innovative and effective method is intended to balance a person’s energy with a gentle tapping procedure. It addresses stressors and imbalances within a person’s energy system, as well as the energetic influence of thoughts, beliefs and emotions on the body. This self-help tool can be used to repair the damage we cause ourselves by learning to de-program earlier learned behaviors through the elimination of negative thoughts and beliefs.

The fingertips are used to tap on 7-12 facial and body acupressure points; combined with cognitive therapies, which signals part of the brain (theamygdala). There is a two-part set-up phase.  In the first part, we acknowledge a negative emotion we are feeling. In the second part, we affirm that we love ourselves in spite of ourselves. For example, “Even though I feel (fill in the blank with a negative emotion) – I still deeply and completely love and accept myself.”

“EFT or Tapping can unlock the peace within us.  It opens us to experience the Kingdom of Heaven that is within (Luke 17:21).  It unblocks the energy and life of the Spirit to flow freely through us – Spirit, soul and body.”– EFT for Christians by Charity Virkler Kayembe and Sherrie Rice Smith

The American Psychological Association believes it meets criteria as an evidence - based practice. This technique is quickly gaining widespread acceptance in medical settings. Dr. Joseph Mercola "Sees Tapping as a gift from God”.

Research performed by the Iraq Vets Stress Project demonstrates the effectiveness of EFT. In a study that included 100 veterans with severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, 86 percent of the veterans had symptoms resolved after only six one -hour sessions. It is also being used as a stress management tool in many schools. Studies have examined the effectiveness of EFT on test-taking anxiety, depression, fear of failure, mental focus, motivation and balancing of negative emotions.

Personally speaking, Tapping has improved Ken’s ability to fall asleep faster and sleep deeply when used consistently. Debbie has had great results using it to relieve minor anxiety in certain stressful situations.

We are excited about the interest and growth that we are experiencing as a result of these added modalities and skills. Great things are happening and we are blessed to be part of it! Thank you to all who continue to provide prayer and financial support.
